Letter from Jenna's Mother, 6/2007 :
Jenna was diagnosed with Leukemia in January of 2005. Although she had two and a half years of chemo treatment at
Children's Hospital, she’s been one of the lucky ones that experienced very few complications. She had a seizure in
January of 2006 which led to her being in the hospital for two weeks, but other than that
she has done incredibly well. She is such an amazingly brave and courageous girl with a sparkle in her eyes and
a beautiful smile.
We are so thankful for Children's Hospital. They have been so good to Jenna! The doctors, nurses, schedulers,
receptionists - they have all been really great. Jenna just finished her Chemotherapy on June 1, and a week later
undergone surgery to get her port-a-cath taken out and have her last bone marrow test taken. Her
bone marrow test came out clean, with no Leukemia cells found! So we are officially done with treatment, though
she’ll continue to have monthly blood tests and check ups for the next year.
We know that Jenna and other kids like her would not have the opportunities to lead such a normal life if it weren't
for the advances that they have made in cancer care and other areas that would never be possible without the
support that is given to Children's Hospitals, in Seattle and all over the U.S. We also know that we are so lucky to
have Children's Hospital right here within driving distance. Imagining what it would be like to have to go through this
experience and have to be away from your home and the rest of your family is almost unimaginable. I cannot even
begin to tell you how thankful we are for Children's Hospital.
